EEO Report , 2023
In 2023, PMJ Communications, WLEA/WCKR, had two control board operators, Will Pirtle and Jarred Kiefer. Pirtle did sports related control board work in the late winter/early spring, leaving us to take a job elsewhere. Jarred Kiefer started work for us in July, doing control board work, usually on Sunday mornings, to play the WABC Show, The Cats Roundtable. Marissa Warriner came in to our radio stations, usually about once per month, to do occasional book keeping duties. Brian O’Neil continued in 2023 as music programmer for WCKR, News Director for WLEA, anchoring newscasts, hosting the WLEA Newsmaker Show, a 25 minute local morning show focused on local news, politics as well as some state and national political analysis from elected officials and local college professors. Glenn Lee, who has been with our company since 1979, performs Operation Manager and Commercial Traffic/Billing duties. Seth Neal did an internship during the summer, helping to develop ads for our website. Todd Burritt was our sales manager throughout 2023, and was assisted by Bonnie Willey and David Prete. David Prete also did a weekend sports show from January 2023 until November 2023, when he left the show hosting duties. Everett Davison started in October, doing reporter duties, covering local town/village meetings.

This is a good, entry level job for someone who is seeking work in the media. If you are an aspiring sports announcer, this would be a great start, as you’ll be on the phone with our local play by play announcers during games, mostly during the commercial breaks (off the air). This job duty would give you a great sense of how to announce sports on the radio. Other duties include playing the commercials during Buffalo Bills games. This job could eventually and possibly turn into other duties (news reporter and sports play by play). Knowledge of Adobe Audition and other programs is helpful. We are seeking local applicants only. Interested? Please email us at: newsroom@wlea.net. PMJ Communications is an equal opportunity employer.

EEO REPORT 2013 (prepared in Feb. 2014)
In the past 12 months, we had one ongoing opening at PMJ COMMUNICATIONS (WLEA/WCKR)—that of Sales Manager and that position was filled in August of 2013 when we contracted with Robert Lee, formerly of PEMBROKE PINES to assume the position of Sales Manager. Mr. Lee’s contract also calls for his purchasing PMJ at some future, as yet undetermined date.
This will mark our first real opening in several years and while Mr. Lee and I have discussed management and eventual purchase of PMJ Communications, it was late June before contracts were signed. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious eye ailment and while his first day on the job was mid-August, it was exactly two months later when he was in a position to take over.
Former Sales Manager Tom Booth will continue to handle a few accounts (he is semi-retired) and will assist Bob Lee in the transfer of duties.
Also semi-retiring and cutting work to about 20 hours a week was Carol Pascoe who has worked here as Traffic Manager for 55 years. She was replaced by a part-timer working from home who was replaced in December by a company in Pennsylvania which now prepares our logs and does billing.

EEO 2012 REPORT (written Feb 2013)
In the past year—since Feb. 2012—there have been no openings at our company with one exception. We are actively looking for a replacement for Sales Manager Tom Booth who is now semi-retired and handling management on a part-time basis. We have not found that person yet although we have been in frequent communication since 2007 with an experienced salesman/manager with the goal of ultimately purchasing PMJ COMMUNICATIONS.

2010 EEO REPORT
This report covers the period between Feb 2009 and the present—Feb 2010.
We have had no openings this year. Our staff continues to be stable and the only changes would seem to be in board ops for sports broadcasts which amount generally to less than 15 hours a week for Spring and Fall and also during the Summer and Spring.
WLEA and WCKR offer a variety of broadcasts for the are done by area sports figures but primarily by our Sports Director/Sales rep. Casey Cameron.
We make ourselves available to speak with groups (usually high school classes) whose students express a desire to know more about the broadcast industry. We also attend job fairs in our area when we are notified of their existence.
We also stay in contact with area colleges and universities which offer communications courses and/or degrees. These would include nearby Alfred State College, Alfred University, Geneseo State and occasionally other institutions which express an interest in knowing of any job openings.
We also broadcast equal opportunity announcements on a regular basis.
Briefings on those appearances referenced above may be found in our EEO files at the station on Ashbaugh Hill, Hornell, NY.

2008 EEO REPORT prepared by Kevin Doran (Feb 2009) WLEA/WCKR, Hornell, NY
Again this year we have had no openings for full time positions at our stations. What few job openings generally take place in sports broadcasts—i.e board operators at the station.
Our staff has seen little turnover in the years previous. Our Traffic Manager has said she wants to retire in 2009 but she has been saying this for some years and I suspect she will keep working as long as she can.
We advertise that we are an Equal Opportunity Employer on the air as per a regular schedule and have had no occasion to see employees from area colleges but we do let them know by phone, e-mail or letter that we are EEO employers. One questioned why we keep saying this when we have no openings but I try to explain that openings—-if they do come at all—could be on short notice.
We have also made known, as we always do, to the NEW YORK STATE BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION (NYSBA) that we would be interested in any intern programs. I personally have been trying to find a job in the Albany area for at least two years now for a young man who is the announcer at the train station in Albany. He has an excellent voice and I made it a point to tell this young man that he could have a career in broadcasting. He said that was his goal but has not succeeded.
I personally spoke with Joe Rielly of NYSBA in Albany and asked him (Executive Director) to assist the young man. However, the next time I bumped into him (taking a train to Boston area through Albany) I found to my surprise that he had still had no luck. I promised that if we in Hornell ever had a news opening (we have not) he would be among the first I would call.
(The reports of meetings attended by staff found in our EEO files at 5942 Ashbaugh Hill, Hornell.)
2007 EEO REPORT
Since our last report in Feb of 2006, we have had no openings.
We have, happily, a very stable staff and any turnover we experience at these stations is generally from those moving away being replaced by other staff members or among the few “board ops” we use for sports broadcasts.
Nevertheless, we notify area colleges like Alfred State, Alfred University and Geneseo State that we are EEO employers and are eager to speak with any of their communication majors either in person here at the station.
We, of course, run the Equal Opportunity announcement on a regular basis and always make an effort to comply with all regulations in this regard. We do this not just to observe the law but because I personally and many staff members firmly believe in this principle. Having personally witnessed discrimination in my younger days as a “disc jockey” in Mississippi, I have always been extremely sensitive toward this issue.
Attached you will find summaries of any appearances our staff made. I try to send a salesman/announcer to these gatherings as opposed to management since few of the (generally) young people we speak with will start their careers in management.
